The impact of supply chain on company performance is increasingly important and this is shown to be especially true in recessionary times where supply chain thinking is leading the way for many businesses to positively manage business pressures and the cash-to-cash cycle. Cranfield School of Management and Solving Efeso undertook through 2009/2010 specific research on supply chain strategy in the boardroom, aimed at understanding the reality of what is involved in developing and implementing supply chain strategy in the world's leading businesses.

This presentation draws on the feedback from this research and will summarize the global supply chain complexities that exists within the automotive industry. An overview will be provided of the end to end supply chain scope from early product development, through finished vehicle delivery, and Ford Service commitments. The Global delivery of time sensitive key milestones will be elaborated and also the critical nature of part replenishment processes in a time of uncertain demand forecast. Lastly, insight will be provide as to how Ford is managing Global growth while remaining at the forefront of supply chain excellence.

The key topics of discussion are:

  • Developing a strategy that will create competitive and financial advantage through better supply chain management

  • Aligning functional and business units across countries and regions
